Tilawah (pixshark.com)

Discussing the Koran seems endless. Because the Qur'an contains many incomparable benefits, it is an inestimable source of knowledge. Also its benefits cannot be doubted. One of the topics of discussion was about the benefits of reading the Koran.

A great scholar, Ibnu Salah (died in 643 H), author of the book 'al-Muaqaddimah, the greatest work in the field of hadith science , said, "Reading the Qur'an is a glory given by Allah SWT to mankind. Indeed, the angels were not given that glory. They yearn to be given that glory to be able to hear it.” (al-Itqan fi Ulum al-Qur'an 1/291) [1]

Reading the Qur'an is the main act of worship offered to Allah SWT. The Prophet, peace be upon him, affirmed,

The best act of worship for my nation is reciting the Qur’an - narrated by Al-Bayhaqi

"The most important worship of my people is reading the Qur'an." (HR. Baihaqi)

Another hadith that explains the superiority of the Qur'an,

“Whoever reads the Koran, he truly steps up to the level of prophethood on both sides. It's just that no revelation was given to him."(HR. al-Hakim)

Some of the advantages of reading the Qur'an:

Double Reward

In a hadith it is explained,

"Whoever reads one letter from the book of the Qur'an, then he gets a reward for each letter of good, and each good is multiplied ten times. I did not say, 'Alif, lam, mim,' that is one letter, but, alif one letter, lam one letter and mim one letter." (HR. al-Hakim)

Given a bright light in the world and the hereafter

"Whoever reads the Qur'an and practices its content, then God will give his parents a crown on the Day of Resurrection that shines brighter than the sunlight in this house." (HR. Ahmad)

In another hadith it is also explained,

"Read the Qur'an. Indeed, it will be a light for you on earth and a treasure for you in heaven." (HR. Ibnu Hibban)

Medicine for Anxiety

The Koran is not only an act of worship, but can be medicine and an antidote to anxiety and worry. As Allah says,

"And We sent down from the Qur'an something that is a cure and a mercy for those who believe and the Qur'an does not add to the wrongdoers anything but loss." (Qs. al-Isra' [17]: 82)

Intercessor

"Read the Qur'an. Because indeed, he will be present to provide intercession or help to those who read it on the Day of Judgment." (HR. Muslim)

Angel Descends Bringing Light and Grace

"If a person has finished reciting the Qur'an, sixty thousand angels recite a prayer when he finishes." (HR. ad-Dailami)

"Light up your houses by praying and reading the Qur'an."(HR. Baihaqi)

When there is always an echo of the Qur'an in our house, the angels will watch our house from the sky. They saw the houses shining brightly, like the inhabitants of the earth who were looking at the stars in the sky. (Al-Itqan fi Ulum al-Qur'an 1/291)

So, are you still hesitant to read the Qur'an more considering how many advantages we will get when reading it? Moreover, now the month of Ramadan is in front of our eyes. In that holy month, we can start to increase reading. And may it continue for the next few months.

In a hadith, a parable explains a Muslim and a hypocrite when reading the Koran. Hopefully this hadith can be used as a reflection.

"The parable of a believer who reads the Qur'an is like an orange, it smells fragrant and tastes delicious. And the parable of the believer who does not read the Qur'an is like a date, it tastes delicious but has no smell. While the parable of a hypocrite who reads the Qur'an is like a flower that smells sweet and tastes bitter. And the parable of a hypocrite who does not read the Qur'an is like a fruit handhal (a type of pumpkin), it tastes bitter and has no smell." (HR. Abu Dawud and an-Nasa'i)

So, don't wait any longer. Let's increase worship by increasing the reading of the Qur'an. [Kazuhana El Ratna Mida/Bersamadakwah]
