A sovereign country certainly has a leader. There are countries led by the President, while others are led by the king. Our country, Indonesia is a unitary state with a presidential system of government so that Indonesia is led by the President. Who are the Presidents who have led our country from the beginning until now?? Please refer to the following explanation.
Definition of President and Vice President
The president in carrying out his duties as head of state is usually assisted by various government officials, one of which is the vice president who is closest to the president. Actually what is meant by the president? In language, the word "President" comes from Latin (prae means before and sedere occupies). Meanwhile, in general, the President means a leadership position in an organization, company, or country. More specifically, the term "President" is primarily used for the head of state of a republic, whether directly or indirectly elected.
While the Vice President is a government position that is one level lower than the President. Usually the vice president will take over as president if he is temporarily or permanently absent.
Names of Indonesian Presidents from the Beginning to the Present
The change of presidents in Indonesia to date has occurred six times, starting from the first President Soekarno to the seventh, currently Joko Widodo. The following are the names of the first Indonesian presidents until now.
1. 1945 - 1967
President: Ir. Sukarno
The First President of the Republic of Indonesia was the Proclaimer of Independence of the Republic of Indonesia, Ir Soekarno or who was more familiarly called Bung Karno. The first President of Indonesia was born in Blitar, East Java on June 6, 1901. Bung Karno graduated as an Engineer at ITB Bandung. Since he was still in college, he has actively fought against the invaders, for the independence of his nation. and on August 18 was appointed President of the Republic of Indonesia.
Vice President : Drs. Mohammad Hatta
Drs. Mohammad Hatta was born on August 12, 1902 in Bukir Tinggi, West Sumatra. Never studied at a high school of economics in the Netherlands. Bung Hatta had been the Chairman of the New PNI in Bandung. On August 18, 1945 Bung Hatta was appointed Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia.
2. 1967 - 1973

General (Purn) TNI. HM Soeharto was born in Kesumuk, Argomulyo, Yogyakarta on June 8 1921, completed the Non-commissioned Officer School in Gombong, Central Java in 1941. Suharto's military career was prominent starting with his role in facing Dutch aggression with the Yogyakarta general attack and the liberation of West Irian (1962-1963). At the 1967 MPRS session, Suharto was given the mandate as President of the Republic of Indonesia.

Vice President: Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono IX
Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono IX was born in Yogyakarta, 12 April 1912. Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono IX was one of the Javanese kings who openly opposed Dutch colonialism and supported Indonesian independence. In 1966 he became the Main Minister in the field of Economy, Finance and Industry. In 1973 he was appointed Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia.
4. 1978 - 1983

Vice President : H. Adam Malik
Adam Malik was born in Pematang Siantar, North Sumatra on July 22, 1917. In 1971 Adam Malik founded the Antara news agency in Jakarta. Adam Malik was active in the political world, founding the People's Party and the Murba Party (1946 - 1958). Adam Malik was appointed Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia on March 23, 1978.
5. 1983 - 1988

Vice President: General (Purn) Umar Wirahadikusumah
General (Purn) Umar Wirahadikusumah was born on October 1, 1924 in Situraja, Sumedang, West Java. Forming the People's Security Army (TKR) in Cicalengka. He was appointed Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia in 1983.
6. 1988 - 1993

Vice President: Letjend (Purn) Sudharmono, SH
Lt. Gen. (Purn) Sudharmono, SH was born in Cerme, Gresik, East Java on March 12, 1927. Completed his education at the Faculty of Law, UI (1926). Formerly the Supreme Military Prosecutor in Medan, the Military Prosecutor concurrently served as a staff officer for the Supreme Warlord. Lt. Gen. (Purn) Sudharmono, SH became the Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia for the period 1988-1993.
7. 1993 - 1998

General (Purn) Try Sutrisno was born on November 15, 1935 in Surabaya, East Java. General (Purn) TrySutrisno played a role in the DI/TII Eradication Operation in Aceh in 1957, the liberation of West Irian 1962, the G 30 S/PKI Crush. General (Purn) Try Sutrisno in 1993 was elected Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia for the 1993-1998 period.

Vice President : Prof. Dr. ing. Bacharuddin Jusuf Habibie
9. 1998 - 1999
President: Prof. Dr. ing. BJ Habibie
Prof. Dr. ing. Bacharuddin Jusuf Habibie was born on June 25, 1936 in Pare-Pare, South Sulawesi. BJ Habibie finished college in Bandung, continued to Germany at the Technische Hochehule, Achen Germany, and graduated cum laude for the aircraft construction major. Diploma Ing. obtained in 1960, the title of Dr. ing. with the predicate summa sumlaude in 1965. BJ Habibie on May 21, 1998 became President of the Republic of Indonesia after Suharto left his position as President of the Republic of Indonesia and became the end of the New Order tyranny.

President : KH. Abdurrahman Wahid
KH. Abdurrahman Wahid was born on August 14, 1940 in Jombang, East Java. KH. Abdurrahman Wahid or Gus Dur is an NU figure and humanist. Gus Dur was appointed by the MPR to become President of the Republic of Indonesia on October 20, 1999 with his deputy Megawati SoekarnoPutri.

11. 2001 - 2004
President: Megawati Soekarnoputri
Dyah Permata Megawati Setyawati Soekarnoputri was born on January 23, 1946 in Yogyakarta. Megawati Soekarno Putri was elected as Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia for the 1999-2004 period. after that he was appointed President of the Republic of Indonesia on July 23, 2001 replacing KH. Abdurraman Wahid whose mandate was withdrawn by the MPR at the 2001 MPR Special Session.
Vice President : Prof. Dr. H. Hamzah Haz
Prof. Dr. H. Hamzah Haz was born on February 15, 1940 in Ketapang, Pontianak, West Kalimantan. Hamzah Haz used to be a journalist in Pontianak. Lectured at Yogyakarta State Cooperative Academy. Hamzah Haz was elected Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia to replace Megawati who became President.
12. 2004 - 2009
President: General (Purn) Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono
General (Purn) Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono or SBY was born on September 9, 1949 in Pacitan, East Java. SBY finished AKABRI in 1973 with the rank of second lieutenant. SBY's political career began by becoming a Member of the DPR for the Delegation of Group Faction (1999-2004), Coordinating Minister for Political, Social and Security Affairs (Menko Polsoskam) in 2000-2004. Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono was elected President of the Republic of Indonesia for the 2004-2009 period who was directly elected by the people.
Vice President: M. Jusuf Kalla
M. Jusuf Kalla was born on May 15, 1942 in Watampone, Central Sulawesi. Jusuf Kalla's political career began when he became a member of the MPR delegated by Golkar and the regions starting in 1982, after that he became Minister of Industry and Trade (1999-2000) and also served as Head of Logistics. Jusuf Kalla became the Coordinating Minister for People's Welfare in (2001-2004) and in 2004 was elected Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia for the 2004-2009 period together with Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.
13. 2009 - 2014
President: General (Purn) Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono
Vice President: Prof. Dr. H. Boediono, M.Ec
Prof. Dr. H. Boediono, M.Ec was born on February 25, 1943 in Blitar, East Java. Boediono has served as Governor of Bank Indonesia, Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Minister of Finance, Minister of State for Planning and National Development/Head of National Development Planning Agency, Director of Bank Indonesia, taught at the Faculty of Economics at Gadjah Mada University as a professor, and served as Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia since 20 October 2009 when he was elected with Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.
14. Year 2014 – 2019 - Now
President: Ir. H. Joko Widodo
Ir. H. Joko Widodo or better known as Jokowi (born in Surakarta, Central Java, June 21 1961) was the elected president of Indonesia in 2014. Jokowi's previous positions were the former Governor of DKI Jakarta and Mayor of Surakarta (Solo) from 2005 to 2012. Two the year while undergoing his second period in Solo, Jokowi entered the election for the Governor of DKI Jakarta together with Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (Ahok) as deputy governor.
